Learn how to extend the wear of your polish.
Prolong your mani with these steps.
FUN FACT:
A natural nail is made up of 30% water, otherwise they are exactly like our teeth. Ever notice how flimsy your nails are during and after a water activity such as doing the dishes or taking a shower? It’s porous nature causes for them to become more vulnerable as the water contents temporarily soar above that initial 30%. This is when it is most likely to chip if you make contact with hard surfaces.
Take it easy for 5-10 minutes so that the water can dry out and they will return to their normal strength. Please be cautious during and right after water activites to protect your nails and polish.
1. A clean nail plate.
Prep your nail plate with a lint-free paper towel and alcohol. This small practice goes a long way. It will eliminate any lotion and oil residue that will compromise the adhesion of polish.
2. start with a basecoat.
Basecoats are vital to every application of color. It is the bonder and barrier between your nail plate and polish, while also providing you with a smooth base as it fills ridges. Chipping will occur faster without it.
3. apply thin layers.
One of the main culprits of chipping is applying thick coats of polish. Not only will the polish not dry properly, but it can also look clumpy.
4. dry between coats of polish.
Polish adheres best to your nail when you allow it to dry evenly between each application so it can bond securely to your nail plate.
5. cap the free edge.
Whenever your nails come into contact with a surface, the tips are the first to wear off. Make sure to swipe the top of your nails to extend the life of your polish.
6. seal with a top coat.
Top coat is essential because it acts as a protective and glossy seal. It also helps flatten out brush strokes. There can be shrinkage as it dries so be sure to cover the entire nail.
7. swipe top coat to the free edge every couple of days.
Make sure to swipe a fresh coat of top coat to the free edge of your nail plate. This replaces the protective layer that naturally wears off throughout the week. It is unnecessary to paint your entire nail as it is only the tips of your nails that come into contact with surfaces. Also the drying time will be quick and easy!
